Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan is aiming for a record-high remuneration of Tk 30 million (3 crore) for his next film, sources say. Only three years ago, Khan was charging a maximum of Tk 5 million per film.

Following the industry success of Priyotoma, he steadily increased his fees, taking Tk 12 million for his last film Borbaad.

After Borbaad became a blockbuster and his other film Tandob also performed strongly at the box office, Shakib delivered around Tk 1 billion (100 crore) in combined Eid revenue to the industry across the past two Eid festivals. Many consider this the peak of his career, giving him the confidence to push his pay scale even higher.

According to sources, Shakib signed on the night of July 2 for a new film titled Danob, which is to be directed by Abu Hayat Mahmud and targeted for release during next Ramadan’s Eid.

Speaking to Times of Bangladesh, director Abu Hayat Mahmud confirmed that he is working with Shakib Khan, but did not confirm the payment figure.

“I can only say that we are working with Shakib Khan. We’ll confirm things finally if the script is settled. We are in constant discussion about the story, and it has reached a stable point. Once everything is locked in, we will officially announce the details at a press conference,” the director stated.

Insiders say Shakib is not entirely happy with the film’s working title, Danob, and it may eventually be changed.

The film is also expected to feature three lead actresses, including Kolkata’s Madhurima, but none of the female roles have been finalised yet. The movie will be produced under the banner of Creative Land.
