Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of BNP media cell, has joined the Daily Shomoyer Alo as its advisory editor.
The managing director of the newspaper’s parent organisation, Amin Mohammad Group, Md Ramzanul Haque Nihad, formally handed over the appointment letter to Khan in Dhanmondi on Thursday afternoon.
The new advisory editor was welcomed by several senior officials, including Mohammad Tanvirul Islam, Executive Director of Amin Mohammad Foundation; Faisal R Ferdous, Publisher of Shomoyer Alo; Munif Ammar, Chief Operating Officer; and Ehsanul Habib Sadi, Chief Business Officer.
Later that afternoon, Khan officially assumed his duties at the Shomoyer Alo office in Bangla Motor. Upon his arrival, he was received with floral bouquets by the newspaper’s acting editor, Shahnewaz Karim, alongside the editorial and reporting staff.
Career and background
An alumnus of Abu Abbas College in Netrakona, Shairul Kabir Khan began his career in journalism as the Atpara correspondent and subsequently the Netrokona district correspondent for the Daily Dinkal.
Khan has been a long-standing associate of the BNP Chairperson’s Press Wing since 2007. He currently serves as a member of the BNP media cell within the Chairman’s Media Wing. He was notably appointed to the inaugural “BNP Media Cell” by the party chairman and current Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman.
Beyond journalism and politics, Khan is a researcher, singer, and filmmaker. He directed a documentary on the Liberation War, which was unveiled by the late former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at the State Guest House Jamuna and later broadcast on Bangladesh Television.
Speaking on his new appointment and his return to active journalism, Khan stated, “I am a writer; I want to be more focused on the media and journalists for the sake of the party and the country.”
