Shahriar Kabir, Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee’s advisory council president, has been shown arrested in a case filed over crimes against humanity during July Uprising last year.
The order was passed by International Crimes Tribunal-1, headed by Justice Golam Mortuza Mojumdar on Sunday.
The tribunal also directed authorities concerned to produce him before the court on 12 January.
Shahriar was arrested on 17 September last year from Dhaka’s Banani area, weeks after the July mass uprising. Since then, police have shown him arrested in several cases linked to incidents during the movement.
He has remained in prison since his arrest.
Shahriar is a prominent writer on the 1971 Liberation War and also known for his contributions to children’s literature. He played a significant role in forming the Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee and became its president in 1994 following the death of Shaheed Janani Jahanara Imam. He served in that role until 2024 and later led the committee as the head of its advisory council.
