Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has been appointed Leader of the Opposition in the 13th parliament.

Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher will serve as Deputy Leader of the Opposition, while National Citizen Party Convener Nahid Islam has been named Chief Whip of the Opposition.

The appointments were finalised at a meeting of the 11-party alliance’s newly elected MPs following the oath-taking ceremony.

Seventy-seven MPs attended the meeting and unanimously endorsed the decisions, according to a Jamaat-e-Islami press release.

Earlier, at around 12:30pm, Jamaat-e-Islami MPs were sworn in, followed by NCP members.

Alliance MPs also took oath as members of the Constitutional Reform Council.
