BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the safety of people across the country now stands under serious threat due to a severe deterioration in the law and order situation.
He said the current situation has placed the lives and security of ordinary citizens at extreme risk. Bringing the situation under immediate control and ensuring the protection of every citizen’s life and property has become an urgent necessity.
Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks in a statement sent to the media on Thursday night, expressing deep concern over the shooting of BNP General Secretary Hasan Mollah.
In the statement, he said that at around 9pm on Thursday, criminals shot and seriously injured Mohammad Hasan Molla, general secretary of Hazratpur Union BNP in Keraniganj.
He was later admitted to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
The BNP Secretary General strongly condemned and protested the attack. He urged the interim government to conduct a fair and impartial investigation without delay and to arrest and bring the perpetrators to justice at the earliest.
Mirza Fakhrul said such acts of violence aim to obstruct the country’s electoral process and halt democratic progress. He added that the people of Bangladesh would never accept any attempt to undermine democracy through violence.
He expressed hope that pro-democracy forces would remain united and build resistance against all conspiracies threatening the country’s democratic journey.
