The much-anticipated Hollywood horror sequel ‘Scream 7’ is set to release in Bangladesh on February 27, the same day as its premiere in the US and other international markets.
The American slasher film will be screened at Star Cineplex, offering local horror enthusiasts a simultaneous global cinematic experience.
A sequel to 2023’s ‘Scream VI’ and the seventh instalment in the long-running ‘Scream’ franchise, the film continues a legacy that began in 1996 and has since secured a cult following among horror-thriller audiences worldwide. This time, franchise creator Kevin Williamson steps into the director’s chair for the first time, having previously served as writer and producer on the earlier entries.
The film marks the return of franchise icon Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, alongside Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Matthew Lillard. Roger L Jackson reprises his role as the chilling voice of Ghostface, while Arquette returns as Dewey Riley, one of the original survivors of the Woodsboro murders.
The production underwent significant creative restructuring. After the departure of Scream (2022) and Scream VI directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett in August 2023, Christopher Landon was initially appointed to helm the seventh instalment.
However, following the exit of cast members Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega later that year, the project underwent a creative overhaul, leading to Landon’s departure.
In March 2024, Campbell confirmed her return to the franchise after being absent from Scream VI, and Williamson was subsequently brought in as director. Filming began in January 2025 and concluded in March.
Set in the quiet town of Pine Grove, Indiana, the story follows Sidney Prescott as she attempts to build a new life. Her peace is shattered when a new Ghostface killer targets her daughter, Tatum, forcing Sidney to confront her traumatic past once again in a bid to end the cycle of murders permanently. The narrative promises a blend of psychological tension, familial conflict and classic slasher elements, aiming to merge modern horror aesthetics with the franchise’s traditional style.
According to a February 5 report by Deadline, the film is tracking for a strong opening weekend at the domestic box office, potentially ranking just behind the $44.4 million debut of Scream VI. Industry observers suggest the instalment could mark a concluding chapter for the saga, although further sequels remain possible if commercial performance meets expectations.
