The dengue situation in Bangladesh continues to deteriorate, with three more deaths and 753 new hospitalisations recorded across the country in the last 24 hours.
With the latest casualties, the total death toll from the mosquito-borne disease has risen to 74 this year. During the same 24-hour period, 753 new patients were admitted to various hospitals, bringing the overall number of dengue cases in the country to 25,601 this year.
According to a bulletin from the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Khulna Division recorded the highest number of new admissions with 135 patients each.
Other hospitalisations include 106 in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) area, 98 in Barisal Division, 94 in Chattogram Division, 61 in Mymensingh Division, 51 in Dhaka Division (outside the city corporations), 46 in Rajshahi Division, 24 in Rangpur Division, and 3 in Sylhet Division.
All three patients who died in the last 24 hours were male, and they were undergoing treatment in hospitals across DNCC, Khulna Division, and Mymensingh Division.
According to DGHS statistics, since 1 January 2026, male patients make up 61.7 per cent (15,803 cases) of the total 25,601 infections, while female patients account for 38.3 per cent (9,793 cases).
However, the mortality rate is significantly higher among women, who represent 58.1 per cent of the total deaths. Of the 74 deceased, 43 were female and 31 were male (41.9 per cent). An age-wise analysis reveals that those aged between 16 and 30 years are the most affected by the virus.
The DGHS also reported that of the total 25,601 patients, 23,747 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals. Currently, 1,780 dengue patients are receiving treatment at various public and private hospitals across the country.
During the first 18 days of August alone, a total of 10,291 people have been infected with dengue, and 20 deaths have been recorded.
