National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organiser (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam has expressed deep disappointment regarding Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib, who was observed running behind the prime minister’s motorcade.

Speaking at a programme marking the first anniversary of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti at the Agriculturists Institute of Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium on Thursday afternoon, Sarjis stated that such behaviour was unseen even during the tenure of the Awami League.

The incident reportedly took place when Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited the Amar Ekushey Book Fair for its inauguration. “It pained me to see the Chhatra Dal President running after the prime minister’s car. He leads millions of students. The way he ran after the leader is something I did not even witness during the Awami League’s time,” Sarjis remarked, describing the matter as “unfortunate”.

Addressing the members of Chhatra Dal, he emphasised the necessity of establishing a new benchmark for student politics. He urged them to create a standard that would serve as a foundation for the future of student leadership in Bangladesh.

Sarjis further observed that a new political competition has emerged in the country. He noted that while the current ruling party is attempting to surpass the previous government through its actions, a “competition of acting” appears to be taking place instead of genuine political activity.

Commenting on the current state of national affairs, he claimed that a “politics of compromise” has begun, leading to a recurrence of irregularities and corruption in various sectors. To overcome this situation, Sarjis called upon the members of Chhatra Shakti to remain organised.
