A Dhaka court has once again deferred the submission of the investigation report in the murder case of legendary film actor Salman Shah, setting 14 May as the new deadline.
The report was due to be submitted on Thursday, but the investigating officer, Inspector Atiqul Islam Khondkar of Ramna Model Police Station, failed to do so. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana then set the new date, marking the sixth extension granted to the investigation officer, confirmed Sub-Inspector Jinnat Ali of the DMP Prosecution Division.
The case was filed on 20 October midnight by Mohammad Alamgir Kumkum, brother of Salman Shah’s mother Neela Chowdhury, at Ramna Police Station. The court accepted the FIR and instructed the investigating officer to submit a report by 7 December.
Eleven people, including the actor’s former wife Samira Haque, have been accused in the case. Other accused are Samira Haque’s mother Latifa Haque Lucy, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, individuals identified as villain Don, David, Javed, Faruk, Rubi, A Sattar, Saju, and Rizvi Ahmed alias Farhad.
According to the case FIR, Salman Shah, whose real name was Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar Emon, was a renowned film actor. On 6 September 1996 at 9:30am, his mother Neela Chowdhury, father Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, and younger brother Shahran Shah went to his New Eskaton residence to meet him before leaving for their village home in Sylhet.
Upon arrival, they were told by Salman’s wife Samira and an employee that he was sleeping. Film producer Siddique had also come to meet the actor at that time. His parents told Samira they would meet him on their way to Sylhet and left the house.
Around 11:30am, production manager Selim called Salman’s father and informed him that “something has happened” to Salman. Rushing to the house, they found him unconscious in his bedroom.
The FIR alleges that one or two women “from outside” were massaging Salman Shah’s hands and feet with oil, with a girl named Ruby present at the time. Samira then told Salman’s mother to leave the house.
On the way to Holy Family Hospital, Salman’s parents noticed rope marks on his neck and that his face and feet had turned blue. He was then rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
