The indefinite transport strike in Habiganj was suspended after nearly 17 hours following assurances from the district administration, with bus services set to resume on Friday morning.
The strike will remain suspended until 5 October.
Abu Moin Chowdhury Sohel, general secretary of the Habiganj Motor Owners Group, confirmed the development around 11pm on Thursday.
He said the strike was suspended until 5 October following assurances from the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Federation and the administration.
A meeting on the issue is scheduled to be held in Dhaka on Sunday, he said.
“If our demands are not addressed, the strike will resume from 6 October,” Sohel said.
The Habiganj Motor Owners Group and the Owners-Workers Unity Council began the indefinite strike at 6am on Thursday, protesting the alleged detention of three buses from Habiganj and assault of transport workers in Moulvibazar on 24 September.
The strike halted bus services on all routes in the district, while hundreds of vehicles became stranded on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway between Shayestaganj and Madhabpur.
The disruption caused significant hardship for passengers, with many forced to use alternative routes and pay higher fares.
