Controversy has once again found its way to ‘Bigg Boss’ and this time, it’s not the contestants but the show’s host, Salman Khan, at the centre of it all.
The 19th season of the long-running reality series is well underway but midway through the episodes, viewers are voicing their outrage at Salman’s comments towards one of the participants; remarks many have branded as blatantly sexist.
The incident unfolded in a recent episode when contestant Ashnoor Kaur complained to Salman about her co-housemate, Farhana Bhatt, claiming that Farhana was “spreading negativity” inside the Bigg Boss house.
In response, Salman quipped, “When Farhana gets married, her in-laws will check what kind of bride she is. They’ll say, ‘Oh, she shouts, she fights, she breaks plates; this is the kind of girl we want as a daughter-in-law!’ The man who marries her will have his life ruined.”
The remark, delivered with apparent sarcasm, immediately drew criticism from viewers, many accusing Salman of perpetuating misogynistic stereotypes about women and marriage.
Social media platforms soon lit up with anger. One user wrote, “Salman can’t stand women who are strong or outspoken. He’s done this with Hina, Gauahar, Rubina, Priyanka and now Farhana.”
Another added, “I’ve never seen such casual sexism on national television before.”
Others questioned why Salman’s comments always seem to target women contestants, with one post reading: “Would he ever make such remarks about a male contestant? This is pure bias.”
Despite the uproar, neither Salman Khan nor the show’s producers have issued a statement or apology.
This is not the first time Salman’s on-air comments have sparked controversy. Over the years, the actor-host has faced repeated criticism for his tone towards female participants, often accused of reinforcing regressive ideas under the guise of humour or authority.
