National Citizen Party (NCP) will reconsider signing the July Charter after reviewing the implementation outline, NCP Joint Convener Sarwar Tushar said on Tuesday.
He made the remarks immediately after submitting recommendations for the charter’s implementation to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.
Tushar said, “The NCP views the submission of the implementation outline of the July Charter to the Chief Adviser positively. The decision now rests with the government.”
He also expressed hope that the political parties will be briefed on the implementation outline. “The NCP will reconsider signing the July Charter once the outline is revealed,” he added.
Earlier in the day, of the National Consensus Commission’s Vice-Chairman Ali Riaz, along with other commission members, handed over the recommendations to Chief Adviser.
The recommendations indicated that the July Charter will receive legal backing in three stages. First, the interim government will issue an order to implement the July Charter. Next, the order will be put to a referendum.
If approved in the referendum, the elected parliament will be required to implement the order within 270 days (nine months).
The recommendations also provide that if the implementation is not completed within the stipulated time, the July Charter will be enforced automatically.
