Salman F Rahman, the former Private Industry and Investment adviser to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, has been shown arrested in a case involving the attempted murder of Moddassir Hossain, a student of Bangladesh Open University, during the July movement.
On Wednesday, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid passed the order following a petition by the investigating officer.
Gulshan Police Station Sub-Inspector Mahfuzul Haque, the investigating officer for the case, had filed the application on Monday to show him arrested.
According to court sources, Salman F Rahman is a chargesheeted accused in the case. An arrest warrant had previously been issued against him, but while attempting to execute it, the investigating officer discovered that Rahman was already in jail in connection with another case.
Consequently, the court granted the application to show him arrested in this case.
The case allegations state that on 4 August 2024, Moddassir Hossain was participating in the anti-discrimination student movement in front of the Yellow Market on Road No 2 in Dhanmondi. He was critically injured by gunshots fired during an attack by leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliate organisations.
Following the incident, the victim’s father, Md Abdul Hannan Sarkar, 57, filed the attempted murder case at Dhanmondi Police Station.
