Saleh Shibli has been appointed as the press secretary to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Concurrently, Atiqur Rahman Rumon has been named the additional press secretary to the PM.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued separate notifications on Wednesday regarding these contractual appointments. Saleh Shibli has been appointed with the rank of secretary. Atiqur Rahman Rumon has been appointed under the Grade-2 pay scale.

Shibli previously served as the press secretary to Tarique Rahman during the latter’s tenure as the acting chairman of BNP. During the term of BNP-led four-party coalition government, Shibli served as the first secretary (press) at the Kolkata Deputy High Commission.

His professional background in journalism includes working as a reporter for the news agency UNB, the Daily Manab Zamin, Banglabazar Patrika, and the private television station Channel i.

Additionally, Shibli has held leadership positions as the general secretary of both the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) and the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA).

Atiqur Rahman Rumon is currently employed at the Daily Dinkal. He took charge of the newspaper after its editor and publisher, Tarique Rahman, assumed office as Prime Minister.

Rumon will now have to relinquish his responsibilities at the daily to take up his new appointment.
