BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has vowed to dedicate his life to public service after surviving an abduction attempt that he said was intended to kill him.

Speaking at his final election rally at the bus terminal ground in Chakaria municipality on Monday evening, Salahuddin Ahmed said he had been given a second chance at life through the prayers of the people and Allah’s mercy.

“I was not supposed to survive. I was abducted with the intention of killing me,” he said. “Now I want to dedicate this extended life to serving the people of this country.”

He also highlighted the sacrifices made by the nation’s youth, saying they had given their lives for a discrimination-free state and democratic reforms.

“We want to build a Bangladesh where no one has to give their life for voting rights or democracy,” he said.
Urging voters to support the BNP’s election symbol, the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ (Dhaner Sheesh), Salahuddin Ahmed called the upcoming election crucial.

“The history of BNP represents the history of economic development and the restoration of democracy,” he said. “On 12 February, vote fearlessly for the Sheaf of Paddy and remain at the polling station until the results are announced,” he urged, expressing confidence that the people’s victory would be secured.

The rally drew a large turnout, with supporters and BNP activists from all unions of Chakaria and Pekua attending. The event was presided over by Chakaria Upazila BNP President Enamul Haque.

Former MP and Salahuddin Ahmed’s wife, Hasina Ahmed, attended as a special guest. District BNP General Secretary Shamim Ara Swopna and other senior party leaders also spoke at the rally.
