A 10-month-old girl was killed and two women injured when a boundary wall collapsed in Rupganj, Narayanganj, following Friday’s earthquake.
The incident occurred in the Dakkhinpara area in the morning. The deceased was identified as Fatema Khatun. Among the injured are her mother, Kulsum Begum, 32, and passerby Jesmin Begum, 35.
Locals said Kulsum Begum was carrying her child while walking past a neighbouring house when the wall fell. Fatema was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured women were rushed to US-Bangla Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Police recovered the infant’s body from under the debris.
Mokhlesur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bhulta Police Outpost, said cracks appeared in several buildings across Narayanganj after the quake.
