Mezbaur Rahman Sumon’s film ‘Roid’ is set to be released across six Australian cities from June 5, following a successful domestic run in Bangladesh that has drawn strong audience response.
The international distribution rights for Australia and New Zealand have been jointly acquired by Screen Xcope and Deshi Events, according to the film’s producer Shimul Chandra Biswas.
Screen Xcope’s head of operations Faisal Bashar said the international market for Bangladeshi films is becoming increasingly accessible, noting the film’s broader appeal beyond diaspora audiences.
“Bangladeshi cinema now has far greater access to international markets than before,” he said. “Roid is a film that can connect not only with Bangladeshi audiences abroad but also with viewers from different cultural backgrounds.”
Deshi Events chief executive officer Saeed Foyez also highlighted the film’s artistic and audience appeal, expressing satisfaction at bringing it to cinemas in Australia and New Zealand.
“Roid is a strong film in terms of both artistic value and audience connection,” he said. “We are very happy to bring it to the big screen for audiences in Australia and New Zealand.”
According to the distribution schedule, screenings will begin in Sydney and Melbourne from 5 June, before expanding to Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra.
In Sydney, screenings will take place at Hoyts Blacktown on 5 June at 8:45 pm, Hoyts Bankstown on June 12 at 8:45 pm, and again at Hoyts Bankstown on June 21 at 6 pm.
In Melbourne, shows are scheduled at Hoyts Chadstone on 5 June at 8:45 pm, Village Cinemas Werribee on June 12 at 8:30 pm, and Hoyts Chadstone on June 21 at 6 pm.
Additional screenings include Brisbane at Hoyts Sunnybank on 14 June, Perth at Hoyts Carousel on June 20, Adelaide at Prospect Palace Nova Cinemas on June 21, and Canberra at Hoyts Belconnen on June 21 at 3:15 pm.
The film has already generated discussion following its release in Bangladesh, with notable audience turnout in theatres. The cast includes Nazifa Tushi, Mostafizur Noor Imran, Gazi Rakayet and Ahsabul Yamin Riyad among others.
