Spain have confirmed that Manchester City midfielder Rodri Hernandez will miss their upcoming World Cup qualifiers after sustaining a hamstring injury.
The Spanish national team announced on Monday that Rodri is “out of the squad because of injury” ahead of their matches against Georgia on 11 October and Bulgaria on 14 October.
The 29-year-old was forced off in the 21st minute of Manchester City’s Premier League victory over Brentford on Sunday, later revealing he had felt discomfort in his hamstring.
Rodri played a crucial role in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph but was sidelined for much of the following season due to a serious knee injury sustained in September of that year.
Spain have not yet confirmed whether they will call up a replacement for Rodri, who was recently awarded the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
On Sunday, head coach Luis de la Fuente named Celta Vigo striker Borja Iglesias as a replacement for injured Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal.
