Afghanistan’s young pacer Mohammad Saleem Safi will be unable to participate in the forthcoming ODI series against Bangladesh after suffering a muscle injury caused by excessive strain on his wrist flexor muscle.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed in a statement that, following an assessment by the team physiotherapist, Safi is not fit to play in the first ODI, which is scheduled for Wednesday. Consequently, the fast bowler will continue his rehabilitation at the ACB’s High Performance Centre for the time being.
In Safi’s absence, another pacer, Bilal Sami, who was on the reserve list, has been called up to join the squad for the remaining matches of the series. The ACB wished Safi a speedy recovery and expressed hope for Bilal Sami’s success in the Bangladesh series.
The ODI series between Afghanistan and Bangladesh will begin on Wednesday, with both teams treating the matches as important preparation ahead of upcoming ICC tournaments. The series comprises three matches, all to be held in Abu Dhabi on 8 October, 11 October, and 14 October respectively.
