Robi Axiata PLC posted a profit after tax of Tk 242.3 crore for July–September, continuing its profitability streak even as revenue softened from the previous quarter.
The mobile operator reported Tk 2,511.4 crore in revenue for the quarter, down 1.7% quarter on quarter, but up 1.5% year on year, according to a press release issued on Monday.
Quarterly earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.46. While this reflects a 5.9% decline from the previous quarter, it represents a strong 28.4% rise from the same period last year, indicating year-on-year operational improvement.
Robi Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ziad Shatara, while explaining the quarter-over-quarter degrowth, said the company saw “an exceptional quarter” in April–June due to a relatively stronger economic outlook.
He said extended monsoon conditions during the July–September period impacted telecom spending, but the strong momentum in cost efficiency measures helped sustain growth.
The company contributed Tk 1,382.7 crore to the government exchequer in the quarter, equivalent to 55% of its revenue, while capital expenditure stood at Tk 314.9 crore as network rollout continued.
Robi’s active subscriber base increased to 5 crore 75 lakh, adding 1 lakh new users during the quarter.
Data subscribers grew to 4 crore 48 lakh and fourth-generation (4G) users reached 3 crore 96 lakh, marking increases of 7 lakh and 11 lakh respectively.
By the end of the quarter, 77.9% of Robi subscribers were data users and 69% were 4G users — the highest ratio in the industry — supported by around 18,500 4G sites providing 98.98% population coverage.
Robi said it continues to focus on maintaining financial discipline, expanding digital services and ensuring network readiness to support sustained growth in a challenging economic environment.
