Community Bank PLC on Saturday organised cleanliness and tree plantation drives at Viqarunnisa Noon School & College and Rajarbagh Police Lines School & College, with around 500 students and teachers participating.
The programmes were held under the bank’s ‘Clean Dhaka Project,’ said a press release.
Students conducted cleanliness drives on the premises and surrounding areas of both institutions and planted saplings of different species.
Forty dustbins, 40 shovels and 40 brooms- 20 of each per school- were provided to the two institutions. In addition, 24 trees, 12 per school, of fruit-bearing, timber, medicinal and flowering species were planted.
Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam, Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, and Community Bank Managing Director Mohammed Emtiaz Uddin attended the events.
Ali Hossain said cleanliness and greenery are key prerequisites for a beautiful and liveable city. “It is not enough to keep roads and surroundings clean; we must plant more trees to make our cities greener,” he said.
Abdus Salam said there is no alternative to planting trees to protect the country and nature.
Emtiaz Uddin said change must begin with oneself.
“If I change, my family will change. If my family changes, my society will change. And if we all change, Bangladesh will change,” he said.
