Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has asked river ports in several parts of the country to hoist cautionary signal No 2 as temporary west or northwesterly squalls are likely to sweep across many regions.
In a special weather bulletin issued on Tuesday, the BMD said rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary west or northwesterly squalls with wind speeds of 60-80 kilometres per hour may hit the regions of Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Cumilla and Noakhali.
River ports in these areas have been advised to display riverine warning signal No 2.
The bulletin also said other parts of the country may experience rain or thundershowers with temporary west or northwesterly gusty or squally winds at speeds of 45-60 kilometres per hour.
River ports in those regions have been asked to hoist cautionary signal No 1.
According to the BMD, the warning for inland river ports will remain valid until 6pm on Tuesday.
