River ports in several regions have been instructed to hoist cautionary signal No 1, as temporary gusty or squally winds from the west or north-west are expected to affect many parts of the country, according to a special bulletin from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

The bulletin stated that, in association with rain or thunder showers, gusty or squally winds with speeds of 45-60 kph are likely to occur over areas including Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet. As a result, river ports in these regions will raise cautionary signal No. 1.

The warning for inland river ports will remain in effect until 1 am on 11 May, according to the bulletin.
