Mojib Uddin Ahmed, a retired professor of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Dhaka University, has passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital.
This information was confirmed in a statement sent by the university’s Public Relations Office on Tuesday. The statement said he passed away at 4:52am. He was 66 years old at the time of his death. He leaves behind his wife, three daughters, relatives, students, and numerous well-wishers.
His body will be brought to the Faculty of Business Studies premises at Dhaka University on Thursday at 12pm to allow teachers and students to pay their respects.
The funeral prayer for the deceased will be held after Zuhr prayers on that day at the Dhaka University Central Mosque, “Masjidul Jamia”. He will later be buried next to his parents’ graves at the Rayer Bazar Cemetery.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor ABM Obaidul Islam has expressed deep grief at the death of Professor Mojib Uddin Ahmed. In a condolence message, the vice-chancellor said he was an honest, humble, and virtuous individual, as well as a dedicated teacher and researcher. He will be remembered for his extraordinary contributions to education and research.
The vice-chancellor prayed for the forgiveness of the departed soul and extended his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family members.
Mojib Uddin Ahmed was born on 1 March 1960, in Bhandaria, Pirojpur. He began his career as a lecturer in the Department of Accounting at Dhaka University in 1983. Later, he was promoted to Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor in the same department.
Since 2013, he had been serving as a professor in the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management. He was involved in teaching and research at various renowned institutions, including the State University of New York (SUNY) in the USA, Elizabeth City State University, the University of Balamand in Lebanon, and the University of the South Pacific in Fiji.
