IUBAT hosts health-tech conference with 31 technical sessions

The 2026 IEEE International Conference on Biomedical Engineering, Computer and Information Technology for Health (BECITHCON 2026) brought researchers, academics, physicians, engineers, industry professionals and students from Bangladesh and abroad to the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) in Dhaka on 4-5 September. The two-day conference was held in hybrid mode at IUBAT.

Jointly organised by the IEEE Bangladesh Section and the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) Bangladesh Chapter, with IUBAT as host, the conference featured eight invited lectures, 31 technical sessions and a Technical Expert Forum covering biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence, healthcare technology, medical imaging, biomedical devices and health informatics, IUBAT said in a press release.

IUBAT Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdur Rab guided the conference as Chief Advisor.

Shaikh Anowarul Fattah, Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Chair of the IEEE EMBS Bangladesh Chapter, served as TPC Chair, while Celia Shahnaz, Professor of EEE at BUET and Vice Chair of the IEEE EMBS Bangladesh Chapter, served as General Chair.

Mohammed Imamul Hassan Bhuiyan, Professor of EEE at BUET and Chair of the IEEE Bangladesh Section, and Md Monirul Islam, Professor and Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering at IUBAT, served as Organising Chairs. IUBAT’s official faculty profile identifies Monirul Islam as Professor and Chair of the department.

Khadiza Akter, Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at IUBAT and TPC Secretary of BECITHCON 2026, delivered the welcome address.

The conference featured international researchers and speakers, including several IEEE Fellows, alongside the invited lectures and technical sessions.

An IEEE Humanitarian Technology Program was also held as part of the conference, highlighting technology-based solutions for community development and improved quality of life.

The closing session was chaired by Professor Selina Nargis, Chief Patron, Treasurer and Director of Administration of IUBAT, who delivered the vote of thanks to the organisers, authors, session chairs, participants and contributors.

Best Paper Awards were presented to outstanding research contributions during the closing ceremony.

The organisers expressed hope that BECITHCON 2026 would foster international research collaboration and encourage young researchers to contribute to technology-driven healthcare innovation in Bangladesh and beyond.
