Bangladesh added just 29 runs to their overnight total before being bowled out for 346 in 92.3 overs on the second morning of their one-off Test against Afghanistan at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
Resuming at 317 for eight, the visitors took one hour and 45 minutes to add those runs, with Nayeem Hasan leading the resistance.
Nayeem, who resumed on 11, added another 24 runs and remained unbeaten on 35 off 67 deliveries.
His overnight partner Taijul Islam managed nine off 20 balls before departing, while last batter Ebadot Hossain failed to score from seven deliveries.
Afghanistan pacer Mohammad Saleem finished with four wickets for 82 runs, leading the hosts’ bowling attack.
Bangladesh had started their innings strongly on Friday after winning the toss and choosing to bat first.
Openers Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Shadman Islam shared a 124-run partnership, helping Bangladesh reach 134 for one at lunch.
Tanzid top-scored with an attacking 83 off 71 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. Shadman contributed 67 off 111 deliveries.
However, Afghanistan fought back after lunch as Bangladesh lost wickets at regular intervals.
Mominul Haque made 39, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 29. Mushfiqur Rahim departed without scoring as Bangladesh slipped to 226 for five at tea.
Litton Das then struck 53 off 89 balls and shared a 62-run sixth-wicket partnership with Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who made 24.
Bangladesh eventually closed the opening day at 317 for eight before their final two wickets added 29 runs on Saturday morning.
Despite three half-centuries and a strong opening stand, the visitors could not reach 350, leaving Afghanistan to begin their first innings with a target of 346 to match.
