Rowan Atkinson is heading back to London’s West End next year with ‘Rowan Live’, a new comedy show bringing some of his most recognisable characters back to the stage, writes The Hollywood Reporter.
The limited run will take place at the Gillian Lynne Theatre from 8 February to 13 March. The show will feature material from ‘Mr Bean’, ‘Blackadder’ and ‘Not the Nine O’Clock News’, alongside new sketches created with Atkinson’s longtime collaborators.
The production marks Atkinson’s return to a West End sketch comedy show after 40 years. He will reunite with writer Richard Curtis, ‘Blackadder’ co-creator Ben Elton and composer Howard Goodall.
Atkinson said he wanted to revisit the sketches he performed with Curtis early in his career while adding new material written specifically for the production.
Curtis recalled first watching Atkinson perform in 1976 and described him as a “unique, once-in-a-lifetime talent”, saying his comic ability remains as strong as ever.
Directed by Raz Shaw, the show will combine Atkinson’s classic characters, physical comedy and new sketches.
