Policy reforms in Bangladesh will not be possible unless the entrenched “unholy nexus” of the civil-military bureaucracy, corporate power and media approach is dismantled, said Mahfuj Alam, adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
He made the remark while speaking at the launch of the book Ognijhora Borsha at a hotel in Dhaka on Tuesday.
He said that political will and aspirations become secondary in the face of the “unholy nexus” of bureaucracy, corporate power, and the media mindset that dominates the state structure.
He remarked that Bangladesh’s governance structure continues to operate under a colonial and Pakistani bureaucratic mindset, making genuine policy transformation nearly impossible.
“Unless this nexus is reformed, no good policy will be implemented; files will remain stuck for months,” Alam said.
Alam observed that the country’s political forces are not strong enough to challenge these entrenched powers.
“Real reform will come only when political leaders who genuinely represent the people are allowed to lead, with other stakeholders supporting them,” he added.
