The New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT), Chattogram Port’s largest container handling facility, achieved a historic milestone in May by recording its highest‑ever monthly throughput since operations began.
According to a press release issued by the port authority, NCT handled a total of 126,496 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) of containers during the month of May, surpassing all previous monthly records and setting a new benchmark for operational performance.
The terminal, which is currently operated by Chittagong Dry Dock Limited under the supervision of the port authority and under the control of Bangladesh Navy, maintained an average daily handling volume of 4,081 TEUs throughout the month.
Of the total containers handled, 59,851 TEUs were import containers, while 66,645 TEUs were export containers, reflecting strong growth in both inbound and outbound trade activities.
The release, sent by Chief Personnel Officer Nasir Uddin, noted that operational performance at NCT has improved significantly since CDDL assumed management of the terminal on 7 July 2025.
Through enhanced supervision and coordination across key operational areas including vessel operations, delivery points, approach channels and sea gates, the terminal has increased efficiency and reduced vessel loading and unloading times.
The previous monthly handling record at NCT was set in October 2025, when the terminal processed 125,533 TEUs. The May performance exceeded that figure, establishing a new all-time high.
Port authorities attributed the achievement to the collective efforts and professionalism of the chairman, members, officers, and employees of both the Chittagong Port Authority and CDDL.
They said the accomplishment would strengthen the capacity of the country’s principal seaport, facilitate foreign trade, and contribute positively to the Bangladesh economy.
Chattogram Port currently operates three terminals. Among them, NCT serves as the primary container terminal, while container vessels are also handled at the Chattogram Container Terminal (CCT) and the General Cargo Berth (GCB).
In 2025, the port handled a total of 3.41 million TEUs across its three terminals. In addition, the port’s Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) is operated by Red Sea Gateway Terminal, a Saudi Arabian terminal operator.
