A long-lost composition by legendary musician Lucky Akhand has finally been released 28 years after it was first created, with the song now brought to life by singer Tarun Munshi.
The track, ‘Jar Kache Mon Rakhi’, was written by lyricist Golam Morshed and composed by Lucky Akhand in 1998 during informal musical gatherings at Morshed’s Dhanmondi office. Although the song was completed at the time, it was never recorded by Akhand and remained unreleased for decades.
Golam Morshed said Lucky Akhand had been a central figure in his creative journey and that many of his writings were inspired by the musician. He explained that the song remained unfinished in terms of release after Akhand’s passing, and was later entrusted to Tarun Munshi, whom he felt could best honour the original composition.
Singer Tarun Munshi described performing the song as an emotional experience, saying it was rare to sing a piece associated so closely with an artist he had admired since childhood. He added that he aimed to preserve the essence of Akhand’s composition while delivering his own interpretation.
The music video, directed by Rumki Rusa and Mashrur Hossain, for Jar Kache Mon Rakhi has been released on the YouTube channel of Gaan Janala.
