As ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ prepares for its March 19 release, the prequel has returned to cinemas globally with a special re-release, giving audiences a chance to revisit the story before the sequel hits theatres.
The original ‘Dhurandhar’ is being screened on approximately 500 screens worldwide. Around 250 screens across India began showing the film on March 12, while another 250 international screens started from March 13.
In North America alone, the film is playing in nearly 185 theatres.
International re-releases of Hindi films are still rare, making this move notable. The strategy allows viewers to watch both films in quick succession, a tactic increasingly common for major global franchises.
As fans flock back to cinemas, new observations about the film have emerged online. One scene from the song ‘Gehra Hua’, featuring Ranveer Singh and Sara Arjun wandering through a mall, has gone viral for a surprising reason.
Viewers noticed that the mall, which is meant to be in Pakistan, appears to be Inorbit Mall in Malad West, Mumbai. On X, one user commented, “Ranveer and Sara go shopping in a mall… that’s Malad ka Inorbit bro. It gives me the ick when you’re fully immersed in the storyline and suddenly the shoot location is a nearby local area.” The user added that it seemed the characters travelled “from Karachi straight to Malad in seconds.”
Another detail drew attention: statues of Nataraja, Ganesha, and Buddha were visible in a shop in the background. Many found this odd given the scene’s intended location in Pakistan. A Reddit user joked, “Can Dhurandhar fanboys tell me how Ganesh, Buddha, Nataraja idols are being sold in Pakistan?”
Some viewers defended the scene, noting that Pakistan does have a Hindu minority and such statues can indeed be found in malls there. Others suggested that directors often prioritise actors and performance over minor background details.
Meanwhile, anticipation is building for Dhurandhar: The Revenge. The recently released trailer hints at a darker, more intense continuation of the spy saga. Ranveer Singh returns as Jaskirat Singh Rangi, also known as Hamza Ali Mazari, exploring his past and the events that drew him into undercover operations.
The sequel introduces new conflicts, with Arjun Rampal as the primary antagonist Major Iqbal, Sanjay Dutt returning as the charismatic cop Chaudhry Aslam and R. Madhavan reprising his role as Hamza’s mentor.
