Actor Randeep Hooda has joined relief efforts in flood-hit Assam, distributing essential supplies to affected families in Sivasagar in collaboration with humanitarian organisation Global Sikhs, reports Hindustan Times.
On Saturday, the actor visited Sivasagar railway station, where many displaced families have taken shelter, and helped distribute ration kits and other emergency supplies.
He also visited Gurudwara Sahib in Sivasagar to offer prayers for those affected by the devastating floods.
Speaking to the media during the relief drive, Hooda stressed the importance of humanitarian service.
“This is Sivasagar railway station, and many affected families have come here from the surrounding areas. We prepare food, bring it to them and have been doing this every day for the last seven days. Humanity is above everything else,” he said.
The actor praised the work of Global Sikhs, with whom he has collaborated on several humanitarian initiatives.
“I have been working with Global Sikhs for many years, and the groundwork they do is amazing. I would urge everyone to contribute in whichever way they can to help people, not just here but wherever there is a crisis. As human beings, it is our duty to help one another,” he added.
Hooda, who recently won the National Film Award for directing Savarkar, said relief teams had assessed the immediate needs of displaced families before preparing aid packages.
“The team has already researched what people need most. Right now, it’s basic necessities such as food, mattresses and tarpaulins. We are preparing relief kits and distributing them to those in need, while our volunteers are also identifying people who have not yet received assistance,” he said.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the floods have claimed 82 lives and displaced millions of people across the state.
Earlier this week, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked industrialist Gautam Adani for contributing ₹11 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts for flood-affected communities.
