Veteran Indian superstar Rajinikanth’s much-awaited action sequel Jailer 2 will arrive in cinemas on 15 October 2026, with the makers confirming the release date through a special promotional video on Thursday.
The film will open during India’s Dussehra holiday period, one of the country’s biggest festive box-office seasons.
Directed by Nelson, the action-packed teaser builds anticipation without revealing the storyline. It mostly presents Rajinikanth in silhouette before ending with the superstar making a powerful walk down a road. Anirudh Ravichander’s background score adds to the dramatic mood, while the teaser keeps Rajinikanth’s full look and the plot under wraps.
The original Jailer, released on 10 August 2023, marked Nelson’s first collaboration with Rajinikanth. The action entertainer became a major box-office success and finished as the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year. It also earned praise for cameo appearances by Mohanlal and Shivarajkumar, while Vinayakan received acclaim for his performance as the main antagonist.
The first film also featured Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah, Vasanth Ravi, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa Menon and Sunil in key roles.
For Jailer 2, Vijay Kartik Kannan serves as cinematographer, R Nirmal handles editing and Sun Pictures is producing the film. Anirudh Ravichander returns as music composer.
Rajinikanth is also preparing for another major release, Dharman, which reunites him with Kamal Haasan. Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu and produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, the film ranks among the most anticipated upcoming Tamil releases.
