Train communication on the Dhaka-Chattogram and Dhaka-Sylhet routes was disrupted on Thursday night as locals blocked the railway tracks in Bhairab following a clash between two groups over a local game.

According to railway sources, the blockade led to at least five trains being stranded at various stations, causing significant distress to passengers.

The affected services include the Mohanagar Godhuli (703), which has been stationary at the Bhairab outer signal since 9:15pm.

Local sources reported that the confrontation began over a local sporting event, after which one group took a position on the tracks to create the blockade.

Railway officials said law enforcement agencies are currently working to bring the situation under control. They maintained that train services would resume once the protesters are removed and the safety of the tracks is ensured.

Meanwhile, the prolonged disruption has left hundreds of night-time passengers in a state of uncertainty regarding their destinations. Railway authorities added that once the situation returns to normal, the stranded trains will depart for their respective destinations in sequence.
