Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is closely monitoring vehicles carrying sacrificial animals to prevent their forced diversion to specific markets ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, said its Director General Md Ahsan Habib Palash.
He made the remarks while briefing journalists after visiting the Gabtoli Cattle Market in Dhaka on Sunday.
The RAB chief said security measures have been strengthened across the country, including the capital, to maintain law and order during the Eid period.
He said RAB has set up check posts in Dhaka and other parts of the country, while control rooms have been established at cattle markets. RAB battalions are also conducting intensive patrols to ensure the safe transportation of sacrificial animals to designated markets.
Alongside other law enforcement agencies, checkpoints have been placed at key and vulnerable locations to enhance overall security, he added.
Md Ahsan Habib Palash said the risk of robbery and snatching increases during Eid due to reduced public presence in cities. “To address this, RAB has increased the number of security posts and patrols,” he said.
He further said surveillance is being strengthened through control rooms and watchtowers at cattle markets to reduce inconvenience for buyers and sellers. Traders and buyers are being encouraged to avoid cash transactions and instead use cashless payment methods, he added.
The RAB chief also said equipment has been kept ready to detect counterfeit currency, while operations against counterfeit money networks are ongoing.
Issuing a warning, he said strict action will be taken against those spreading rumours or misinformation on social media related to Eid and animal sacrifice.
He added that regular patrols, intelligence surveillance and operational activities will continue nationwide to prevent crime and ensure public safety during the festive period.
