Detroit beat Charlotte 110-104 on Monday night, ended the Hornets’ nine-game winning streak, and sparked chaos at Little Caesars Arena as a third-quarter brawl led to five ejections, including a furious head coach.
Cade Cunningham drove the Pistons with 33 points and controlled the game when it mattered. Detroit matched Charlotte’s physicality and refused to blink late.
The flashpoint came when Moussa Diabate fouled Jalen Duren and the two went forehead to forehead. Duren shoved Diabate away, and the court exploded.
Players sprinted in from every angle. Punches flew, bodies tangled, and officials lost control for several minutes.

Referees ejected Duren and Isaiah Stewart for Detroit, plus Diabate and Miles Bridges for Charlotte. Stewart sprinted off the bench, while Bridges threw a punch as tempers boiled.
The drama did not end there. Hornets head coach Charles Lee exploded at a fourth-quarter foul call and earned an ejection, needing staff to restrain him before he left the court.
Lee praised his players despite the meltdown. “That was a freaking great game for us,” he said, before adding, “They are the number one team in the East and they bring a level of physicality and competitiveness.” He felt his side stood up to it.
On the brawl itself, Lee played it down. “Two guys got in a heated conversation and then it kind of spiraled from there.” On his own dismissal, he admitted, “I gotta have a little bit better emotional control in that moment.”
Detroit coach J.B. Bickerstaff took a firmer stance. “They’re not the ones that initiated it… they crossed the line,” he said, backing Duren’s reaction. He added, “If a guy throws a punch at you, you have a responsibility to protect yourself.”
The win pushed Detroit to 39-13 at the top of the Eastern Conference, clear of the Knicks. Charlotte stayed tenth at 25-29, bruised in body and momentum.
Elsewhere, Orlando beat Milwaukee 118-99, Utah upset Miami 115-111, and Brooklyn shocked Chicago 123-115.
