Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus will attend the opening ceremony of the 80th United Nations General Assembly at 9am local time on Tuesday.
At 10:30am, he will hold a meeting with the Director-General of the World Trade Organization to discuss Bangladesh’s trade-related matters.
He will meet with the president of the World Bank at 11am to discuss the overall state of the country’s economy, followed immediately by a meeting with the Queen of the Netherlands at 11:30am.
At 2:30pm, the head of the interim government will attend a meeting of public and private sector leaders organised by the World Economic Forum. After a meeting with the CEO of Reckitt Benckiser at 5pm, Yunus will attend a dinner at 7pm hosted by US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
On Monday, the chief adviser attended an IMF meeting at the UN on social business, where he delivered a speech. Subsequently, he participated in another event. The chief adviser has been awarded an SDG Award. Two other individuals also received this award besides him, reports Naziur Rahman Sohel from New York City.
NCP and Awami League Protests
The NCP and Awami League held protests in front of the Hyatt Grand Central hotel in Manhattan.
They staged these protests on Monday night local time. Activists of the NCP in the US protested, condemning the attack on the party’s member secretary, Akhter Hossen. Meanwhile, during the Awami League protests labeled Yunus as an enemy of the country.
However, only around 15 people were present at the protest.
Honouring the family of police officer Didarul, killed in NY shooting
Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus expressed deep condolences to the family of Didarul Islam, a US police officer of Bangladeshi origin who died an untimely death.
Family members of Didarul Islam met with the chief adviser at a hotel in New York on Monday night local time. During the meeting, the chief adviser presented a crest to the family members in honour of Didarul Islam.
Present at the time were Didarul Islam’s father Mohammad Abdur Rob, mother Minara Begum, two sons Ayhan Islam and Azhan Islam, brother Kamrul Hasan, brother’s son Adiyan Hasan, sister Nadima Begum, and uncle Ahmed Jamal Uddin.
Also present were the chief adviser’s accompanying delegation members, NCP Member Secretary Akhter Hossen and Joint Convener Tasnim Jara.
