During Sunday’s proceedings, the prosecution informed the International Crimes Tribunal-1 that it has filed a petition for the seizure of assets belonging to Sheikh Hasina and her two primary associates. This measure was taken to provide monetary support to the families of victims, should the accused be found guilty.
Prosecutor Gazi Monawar Hossain Tamim stated that this appeal was submitted in accordance with specific clauses within the tribunal’s legal framework that authorise such actions.
The prosecutor went on to add that, while there can be no real compensation for death of a family member, financial restitution can provide partial support to families.
“The prosecution will accept whatever order the Tribunal delivers,” he said.
A judgment from the tribunal concerning former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her two aides is scheduled to be issued tomorrow.
The prosecution has requested capital punishment for Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Prosecutor Tamim said.
The other individual implicated is former police inspector general, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who subsequently turned state’s witness. The court will issue a verdict regarding his status separately.
Tamim expressed confidence in the prosecution’s case, saying that he feels that it has established all five of the charges issued against the accused.
