Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has stated that the nation’s security forces are in a state of high alert ahead of tomorrow’s ICT verdict concerning crimes against humanity and murder charges against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and ex-home minister Asaduzzaman Khan.
Following a coordination meeting with local officials at the Barishal District Police Lines, he informed reporters that comprehensive security measures have been reinforced to avert any potential disturbances.
“All the law enforcement agencies are now completely ready ahead of the verdict,” he added.
Jahangir also affirmed his belief in the local administration’s ability to hold the upcoming national polls without violence.
“The field administration is ready to hold the next general election in a free, fair and festive manner,” he said, further commenting that the general security environment is currently under control.
He observed that a peaceful election relies on the actions of the Election Commission and political groups, in addition to the efforts of security personnel.
“None can disrupt the upcoming general election once the people become election-oriented,” he added.
Commenting on the recent fare-related confrontations between students and transport workers, the home adviser mentioned that the matter would be settled amicably through dialogue, and has directed police to remain vigilant to ensure that the situation worsens no further. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Inspector General of Police Monjur Morshed Alam, Barishal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam, and Superintendent of Police Sharif Uddin, along with other officials.
