Project Hail Mary, one of this year’s biggest box-office hits, will begin streaming on Prime Video from Friday, 3 July, following a 105-day theatrical run.
According to Deadline, the Amazon MGM Studios film first became available on MGM+ on 18 June after completing a 90-day exclusive theatrical window. The studio followed its traditional release strategy, moving the film from cinemas to premium video on demand (PVOD) before its pay-one window on MGM+, and finally to Prime Video.
Deadline reported that the staggered release differs from films such as Red One, which was developed for Prime Video and moved directly to the streaming platform after its theatrical release.
Based on Andy Weir’s bestselling novel, Project Hail Mary stars Ryan Gosling as a middle-school science teacher who is recruited by the US government to undertake a critical space mission. Sandra Hüller also stars in the film.
Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the science-fiction adventure has emerged as one of the year’s biggest commercial successes. It has grossed more than $683 million (approximately Tk8,330 crore) worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing film globally so far in 2026.
Drew Goddard adapted the screenplay from Weir’s novel. Amy Pascal, Ryan Gosling, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Andy Weir, Rachel O’Connor and Aditya Sood served as producers.
Amazon MGM Studios is also expected to mount an awards campaign for Project Hail Mary later this year.
