The Election Commission (EC) has instructed to recruit officers from private banks if a sufficient number of officers cannot be obtained for the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election.
EC Deputy Secretary Mohammad Manir Hossain sent a letter to the district election officers recently, mentioning that EC has decided to prepare the panel of polling officers for election by excluding officers and employees working in private banks.
However, if a sufficient number of polling officers cannot be found for conducting the vote, officers and employees from private banks can be recruited after scrutiny.
It further stated that instructions have been given to prepare the panel of polling officers by 15 December.
On 23 November, the BNP submitted a written demand to EC not to appoint anyone from Islami Bank or similar institutions as polling officers in election. Leaders of the party submitted this proposal after meeting with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin.
Three days after this BNP proposal, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami expressed concern over the BNP’s call not to assign officers and employees of Islami Bank and several other institutions responsibilities in election.
