A joint team from Mugda Police Station and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested the prime suspect in the murder of Saudi expatriate Mokarram Mia.
Taslima Begum alias Hasna, 31, was arrested from her sister’s residence in Narsingdi.
Investigators said Taslima had an extramarital affair with Mokarram and took Tk5 lakh from him. On 14 May 2026, a dispute erupted when Mokarram demanded the money back and proposed marriage.
Taslima refused to return the money and rejected Mokarram’s marriage proposal, sparking a heated quarrel between them.
At one stage, in a premeditated plan, Taslima gave the victim sleeping pills mixed with water, leaving him drowsy.
Later, with the help of her sister Helena Begum and niece Halima Akter, Taslima struck Mokarram repeatedly on the head, neck, and throat with a hammer and a sharp weapon, ensuring his death.
Then, the trio dismembered the body in the bathroom and dumped the parts in polythene bags across Manda and Maniknagar.
Police recovered Mokarram’s headless body from a garbage heap on 17 May. Following RAB’s arrest of Helena and Halima on 18 May, Helena confessed, leading to recovery of the victim’s head from Maniknagar Balur Math.
A murder case has been filed at Mugda Police Station under the Penal Code. Taslima is now in custody, while police continue probing possible accomplices.
