Teachers launched a “complete shutdown” of all government primary schools nationwide on Wednesday, pressing a three-point demand that includes upgrading their pay scale to the 11th grade.

Under the banner of the Primary Teachers’ Demand Implementation Council, they began the demonstration following an announcement made in a statement issued Tuesday night.

Their other demands include resolving complexities over higher-grade benefits after 10 and 16 years of service and ensuring full departmental promotion from assistant teacher to head teacher.

Mohammad Shamsuddin, one of the leaders of the platform, said in a Facebook post that the “complete shutdown” will continue until their demands are met.
