President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Saturday urged people worldwide to unite in support of the helpless and stressed the importance of ending war, conflict, and vengeance to ensure global peace and stability.
“As human beings, it is our moral responsibility to stand beside the helpless. Eid teaches us that we must hope for a permanent end to war, conflict, and vengeance and work toward establishing peace everywhere,” the President said while addressing the nation on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
He extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Bangladesh and Muslims around the world, noting that Eid-ul-Fitr is the most important religious festival for Muslims, celebrated with joy after a month of fasting, devotion, and self-restraint during Ramadan.
President Shahabuddin prayed to Almighty Allah that the joy of Eid reaches every home across the country and among all people. He emphasized that Islam promotes peace, equality, compassion, and coexistence—values that are especially important in today’s global context.
Highlighting the challenges facing humanity, he said, “This year’s Eid is observed while many parts of the world witness the bloodshed of innocent children, women, and civilians due to conflicts and wars, creating crises that affect humanity everywhere.”
The President also emphasised the social dimension of Eid, noting that the festival encourages harmony, as people from all walks of life come together to celebrate. He urged the affluent to support the poor and disadvantaged, sharing the joy of Eid with neighbors, relatives, and friends.
He called upon citizens to remain united in building a just, democratic, humane, and self-reliant Bangladesh, while praying for the peace, happiness, and prosperity of the nation, the Muslim Ummah, and all people around the world. “May Almighty Allah help us all,” he added.
Earlier on Saturday, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the National Eidgah, the country’s main congregation.
The event was attended by cabinet members, lawmakers, senior political leaders, high-ranking civil and military officials, and citizens from various walks of life, organized by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
