The iconic Predator franchise, one of Hollywood’s longest-running sci-fi sagas, is returning to the big screen with its latest installment, Predator: Badlands, releasing worldwide on November 7.
The film will premiere in Bangladesh on the same day at Star Cineplex, much to the excitement of local fans.
The Predator series first debuted in 1987, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as the battle-hardened commando facing an otherworldly hunter.
The film’s gripping mix of action and horror turned it into a cult classic, spawning a series of sequels and spin-offs including Predator 2 (1990), Alien vs. Predator (2004), AVP: Requiem (2007), Predators (2010), The Predator (2018), and Prey (2022).
Earlier this year, the animated spin-off Predator: Killer of Killers added a new chapter to the saga’s mythology.
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who also helmed Prey, the new film stars American actress Elle Fanning and New Zealand actor Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi in central roles.
Badlands takes the franchise in a bold new direction, blending high-octane action with a layered exploration of identity and survival.
This time, the story centers on Dek, a young Predator ostracized by his tribe for his perceived weakness and compassion, traits considered unforgivable in a species defined by conquest and carnage.
Hunted by his own father, Dek flees to a desolate planet ruled by the monstrous Kalisk, a beast so fearsome that even the mightiest Predators fear it. Determined to reclaim his lost honor, Dek vows to slay the creature.
Along his journey, Dek encounters two “synths,” hybrid bio-clone twins with contrasting personalities. One, Thea, is lighthearted and flawed yet deeply empathetic, forming an unexpected bond with the alien outcast.
The other is a merciless hunter, a perfect machine devoid of emotion, the franchise’s chilling new embodiment of the Predator archetype.
In Badlands, Trachtenberg crafts a haunting world where technology, philosophy, and emotion intersect. The film delves into the silence between survival and extinction, exploring what it means to fight not only for life, but for meaning itself. Whether Dek triumphs or falls, his battle for identity and purpose is set to redefine the legacy of the Predator universe.
