For years, cricketer Shakib Al Hasan held the title of Bangladesh’s most-followed celebrity on Facebook.
That has now changed, with actress Pori Moni taking the top spot.
Pori Moni’s official Facebook page has surpassed 17 million followers, overtaking Shakib’s 16 million-plus followers.
The milestone makes her the country’s most-followed celebrity on the platform.
Despite appearing in around two dozen films over the past 12 years, Pori Moni has not delivered a major box-office blockbuster.
However, she has remained one of Bangladesh’s most talked-about public figures through her active social media presence, where she regularly shares updates about her personal life, family, travels, photoshoots and work.
Reacting to the achievement on Monday, Pori Moni said she enjoys openly sharing the small moments of her life with fans and believes there is “no greater achievement than people’s love”.
She thanked her followers for their continued support.
The race between Pori Moni and Shakib has been close in recent years.
Their follower counts first converged around three years ago, with Shakib briefly regaining the lead in 2023 before both crossed the 16-million mark.
Pori Moni has now widened the gap to become Bangladesh’s most-followed celebrity on Facebook.
