Shafiqur Rahman, ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami and leader of the opposition in Parliament, has said the “politics of murder” in the country originated with the Pilkhana incident.
He made these remarks on Friday while attending an Iftar programme at a hotel in the capital’s Bijoynagar. The event was organised in honour of the family members of those killed during the Pilkhana massacre and the July uprising.
Shafiqur alleged that the victims themselves were placed in the dock to conceal the “true mystery” surrounding the event.
He further pledged that should Jamaat-e-Islami ever be entrusted with the responsibility of governing the country, a genuine trial for the Pilkhana incident will be ensured.
The Jamaat leader also remarked that the people of the country no longer wish to witness the politics of vengeance. He added that the party remains steadfastly committed to fulfilling the expectations of the nation.
