Police on Wednesday blocked a procession of non-MPO teachers attempting to march toward the Chief Adviser’s residence Jamuna to press their demand for the inclusion of all eligible non-MPO educational institutions under the MPO scheme.
The teachers, rallying under the banner of the ‘Sammilito non-MPO oikya parishad’, set out from the National Press Club around 3pm but were stopped near the Kadam Fountain intersection, where police put a barricade.
In protest, several teachers sat or lay down on the road, chanting slogans and vowing to continue their movement.
“Our demands are justified,” the demonstrators said. “We have been staging a nonstop sit-in for 25 days. We will not return home until our demands are met.”
They also called on the Finance Ministry to approve within 24 hours the MPO policy already sent by the Ministry of Education.
