Chorki is set to release its new flash-fiction drama ‘Thursday Night’, a story that begins with a light-hearted evening chat and unravels into a tense investigation. The project drops at 12:00 am on November 26 (effectively the start of November 27).
Directed by ‘Ghumpori’-famed producer Jahid Preetom, the drama is inspired by a real crime incident. Preetom says he has explored the event from multiple viewpoints, employing what he calls the “Rashomon effect”, leaving the audience to decide the truth for themselves.
The trailer, released on the afternoon of November 24, hints at a party, a mysterious episode that wipes out several hours of memory and the police’s attempt to reconstruct the missing timeline.
Tangia Zaman Methila, Soumya Jyoti, Farrukh Ahmed Rehan and Towhidul Tamil portray the central group of five friends, while Samira Khan Mahi appears as the investigating police officer. The plot centres on the baffling incident involving Methila’s character.
Although widely known for romantic content, Preetom says mystery has always been his preferred genre. After spending several years making romances in a market crowded with thrillers, he has now returned to the style he loves. He adds that Thursday Night was crafted with confidence, following extensive research into the underlying incident.
The drama also marks the first collaboration between Methila and Samira Khan Mahi. Mahi, who joined the project specifically because of Methila, recalled a memorable shooting day when she went straight to an event in the same saree after filming an interrogation scene on the morning of Pahela Baishakh.
Farrukh Ahmed Rehan appears in a role that pushes him beyond his familiar romantic image. He noted that working with Preetom, his favourite director, was a key motivation. Soumya Jyoti added that, following the success of Utshob, the audience’s expectations will remain high.
Written by Jahid Preetom, the production also features Nakshi Tabassum, Parvez Suman, Mehedi Hasan Medha, Sadid Adnan Wahid and Rehnuma Alam Oishi.
Jointly produced by Alpha-i Studios and Chorki, Thursday Night aims to capture the small, fleeting moments of life; ones that may seem minor but leave a lasting impact.
