Prime Minister Tarique Rahman reached Barishal on Monday for his first official visit to the division since taking office. He was greeted by thousands of BNP leaders, activists, and supporters in Gournadi upazila.
His motorcade reached Gournadi around 9:50am, where Information and Broadcasting Minister and Barishal‑1 MP Zahir Uddin Swapon, along with local party leaders, received him, UNB reports.
Supporters lined both sides of the road at the gateway to Barishal, applauding as the convoy passed. Standing in a red‑and‑green bulletproof bus bearing the slogan “Bangladesh First,” the prime minister waved to the crowd.
In line with his directive, no welcome arches, banners, or festoons were erected along the route.
Tarique left his Gulshan residence in Dhaka by road around 6am for the day‑long visit.
During the tour, he is scheduled to plant saplings along the Sarikal Canal in Batajor union, distribute Family Cards among beneficiaries, and later join a tree plantation programme at Sagardi near the Trish Godown Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Barishal city.
In the afternoon, he will attend a BNP organisational meeting at the Barishal District Shilpakala Academy before returning to Dhaka in the evening.
